Manama: Kuwaiti authorities have arrested an Al Qaida-linked terrorist cell of six members on suspicion of plotting to launch attacks against US forces in Kuwait among other targets.

Camp Arifjan, a vast $200-million (Dh734.8 million) US military base that houses 15,000 American soldiers, the national security agency headquarters and other sensitive Kuwaiti institutions were among targets identified by the group for strikes to be carried out during Ramadan.

According to media reports, the group had already bought a truck and planned to rig it up with fertiliser, chemical explosives and gas cylinders to inflict maximum damage in the military camp.
